Mummers from a village in Avon, (near Bath and on
the Gloucestershire-Wiltshire--Somerset border) whose guising costume
is made of strips of newspaper, in former times supposed to be renewed
each year, but now preserved for its historical value. They carry out
their ritual in the village street every Boxing Day, watched, and sometimes
almost heard, by a crowd of thousands. The ceremony starts with the town-crier
and ends with THE St DAVID'S DAY SONG. This recording includes interviews
with the actors in 1943 and 1957
