FTX-908 - CUMBERLAND GAP
Maud's Appalachian Collection -2-
Dr Maud Karpeles accompanied Cecil Sharp when he collected
in the mountains during the First World War. He wrote down the music and she
the words. A selection of their findings were published in FOLKSONGS OF THE
SOUTHERN APPALACHIANS. In 1950 and 1955 she returned to record some of the people & their relations who were still singing and playing. Vol.2 contains Virginia
ballads and dance tunes with 5-string banjo, demonstration of banjo tunings
and family reminiscences. Included is a special message from the blind Anglophile
