FTX-907 - BLACK IS THE COLOUR

Maud's Appalachian Collection -1-

30 songs, ballads & dance-tunes with lilting, fiddle and banjo as well as music from The Sugarleaf Sheltons Band. Dr Maud Karpeles accompanied Cecil Sharp when he collected in the mountains during the First World War. He wrote down the music and she the words. A selection of their findings was published in FOLK SONGS OF THE SOUTHERN APPALACHIANS. In 1950 and 1955 she returned to record some of the people and their surviving relations, who were still singing and playing. Vol.1 covers Tennessee and N.Carolina with some interesting talk about Sharp's visit, as well as reminiscences of the Civil War.
