FTX-515 - THE BOATIE ROWS
Coastal Songs & Forebitters
A varied selection of 28 ballads by traditional performers
in England and Scotland, from Orkney & Shetland in the North to Cornwall
and the Channel Islands in the South. Most of them are concerned with the fishing
industry including whaling, and the many hardships at sea, but, in addition,
with how Jack also finds troubles ashore. Singers include Bristol shanteymen,
Stanley Slade and Tom Purvis, and the Thames Barge skipper, Bob Roberts, the
Hastings fisherman, Old Joe Spice, and retired shellback, Paddy Walsh, at Devonport.
