Selected recordings, with variants of 24 of those included in Prof Francis J. Child's ENGLISH AND SCOTTISH POPULAR BALLADS (48 being included on the first two). This, the last of 3 albums, going from #217 THE BROOM O THE COWDENKNOWES sung by the Orkney ballad-singer, Ethel Findlater to #299 THE TROOPER AND THE MAID sung by super-tramp Jimmy McBeath. They feature outstanding traditional singers from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales as well as the travellers, gypsies and tinkers. Some have one version, while others, such as #274 THE SEVEN DRUNKEN NIGHTS (#274) has four different variants.
