INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL, LONDON 1935 (B/W silent) filmed by Doris Plaister on Agfa using a clockwork camera includes foreign folk-dance teams arriving in London, processing and performing in Hyde Park as well as taking a break to go on the river to Greenwich. This specially edited version featuring traditional English Long and Short Sword Dances ( North Skelton, High Spen & Winlaton) as well as Flamborough performed by a ladies team includes "Bal da Sabbre" or Sabre Dance from Fenestrelle, Piemonte, Italy in which the Fool, Harlequin, leaps on top of the locked swords. (Facilities kindly provided by the EFDSS for a special showing in Fenestrelle at their annual festival in 2004)
This remarkable Festival, aimed at assisting World peace in Europe, was organised by Peter's father and aunt, Maud Karpeles, and was filmed by Doris Plaister on Agfa using a clockwork camera. In this she was assisted by Peter Kennedy as a 13 year old schoolboy allowed up to London from his school in Reading. Now, 70 years later, Peter has corrected the speed and edited the film to show the many
foreign folk-dance teams that came to London, arriving in London, processing and performing in Hyde
Park as well as taking a break to go on a river-trip down the Thames to Greenwich. (B/W mute/ 25'30")
