More fiddle tunes from the Donegal pedlar who, when
he was recorded in the early 1950s, never repeated himself and came up
with a limitless repertoire of airs and old-time dance tunes. Not only
did we record his brother, Mickey, the tinsmith, whose style was perhaps
more rhythmic and danceable than Johnny's and whose main achievement were
the stories that went with the tunes played with a more lyrical treatment,
but there was yet another brother, Johnny Simie, who can best be described
as having more of the older country style of Irish fiddle-playing. |
