FTX-181 - IPPETTY SIPPETTY

SCOTS PLAYGROUND GAMES

Actuality recordings made in Scotland 1952-60 in four urban areas: Aberdeen, Glasgow, Paisley and Edinburgh. They provide some of the most powerful versification in rhythm and rhyme ever heard in Britain: Counting-out, ball- bouncing, skipping, clapping, "gate" and choosing games, as well as solo songs, including some descriptions of skipping techniques. Featured are film stars, Cowboys, Charlie Chaplin, Chinamen, Italians, Jews and, of course, Scotsmen including Harry Lauder and Rabbie Burns.
