FTX-143 - MANDI WENT TO POOV THE GRYS

CAROLYNE HUGHES - 2 - MORE GYPSY SONGS FROM DORSET

This is a second album of of Carolyne Hughes (1902-1971) recorded by Peter Kennedy in her gypsy caravan near Blandford in 1968. It contains 38 songs, most of them traditional, but also includes some of her own favourites, classic old-timers and Irish songs. This recording reprersents the second later half of the recording session and, in contrast to Album One contains more background sounds from the children, forced by the bad weather to play in the caravan, thus providing a more authentic atmosphere. Her husband, John, was present throughout and contributes two items: THE LITTLE CHIMNEY SWEEP and his version of BARBARY ELLEN. (Her first album is on FOLKTRAX 043)
