CONCERTINAS IN DURHAM AND YORKSHIRE
Gordon CUTTY, from Durham, plays English concertina &
Sam FAWCETT, from Baldersdale, the Anglo-German concertina. Gordon, a miner,
when recorded in 1954, was still working at East Hetton Colliery and playing
for dances, while Sam, farming at West Birk Hatt, recorded in 1953, who
formerly played for dances in Swaledale, was a neighbour of Hannah
Hauxwell at Low Birk Hatt, Baldersdale, whose life story was featured on
TV by Barry Cockcroft who also put together her two books, "Seasons
of my Life" and "Daughter of the Dales". Peter's photograph
of him playing the concertina appears on page 31` in "The Complete
Story"(publ by Arrow Books 1992). |
