CUMBRIAN PACE EGG CUSTOMS
Lake District children talk about their Easter egg customs, dyeing, "dumping" (cracking them together) and rolling. Then we hear two of the local folk plays
from two groups of kids from the villages of Far and Near Sawrey, now in Cumbria,
but previously in Westmoreland recorded in 1960 and 1967.
1. Boys talking about the preparation of their Easter eggs: dyeing, sticking
on hair etc. and about cracking them together (known as "dumping") -

performed by 4 boys, aged 11-13 from Far and Near Sawrey. The play was taught
to them by Albert Satterthwaite - 6'06"
5. FAR SAWREY Pace Egg Play performed by 5 children of Far Sawrey Church of
England School - 7'02"
