FTX-088 - KINGSBRIDGE FAIR
SOUTH DEVON SONG CONTEST
The South Devon Songmaking Contest, held at "The King's Arms" in 1975, was
sponsored jointly by Folktrax and Wadworth's Brewery. All 13 entries are included
here as a unique portrait of a Devon market town as well as displaying the diversity
achieved by the authors, composers and types of performances including the local
Primary School. Also includes the adjudication and announcement of prize-winners
as well as the East Allington handbell ringers who filled the interlude while
the adjudicators were selecting the winners.

The winners received £25, a trophy and a pin of Wadworth's beer in the wood
THE RULES: Any number of singers and instruments can be used to present the
song in performance, but entrants were asked to bear in mind that the adjudicators
would be concerned that the woods be clearly understood by local people. Both
words and music to be of original composition, but they could be based on traditional
forms. Songs should not exceed 3.30 minutes duration.
