FTX-067 - WHAT A VOICE

JEANNIE ROBERTSON

Jeannie ROBERTSON (1908-1975) was awarded an M B E for her service to Scottish music - this recording by Peter Kennedy in 1953, was made at a time when she first started to remember some of the older ballads learned from her mother and other tinkers - including MY SON, DAVID (Child #13), LORD BATEMAN (#53) & ANDREW LAMMIE (#233), which she recites in the old Perthshire style. She also tells a cumulative tale, The Old Witch Woman, and recalls dandling songs
