FTX-064 - SCAPA FLOW

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC FROM ORKNEY

Outstanding Orcadian folk musicians recorded by Peter Kennedy, July 1955, incl THE ANDERSON BAND, South Ronaldsay, JOHN FRASER, champion ploughman and fiddler of Birsay, THE GARSON TRIO, JIM LESLIE accordion & PETER PRATT, singer, fiddler & a tin-whistle which he played to the seals. This is an important record of Orcadian folkmusic, which still shows some occasional traces of its Norse origins, though it is now over-laid with the "Lowland Scots" tradition brought over by farm settlers mainly from the Aberdeen area.
