Fred Rooke was born 1935 at Hedenham, where his father was farming. However,
he tells us, before his birth, his mother was knocked down by a runaway sow.
Perhaps as a result of this incident, says Fred, the pig has become the burden
of his life ! It was while working on a pig-farm in Gloucestershire that he
became interested in gypsies and composed his BALLADS OF BAWLENGRO -
on 045 & 046.
