FF-1112 - A FESTIVAL OF FIRE

This Carnival Event held every November 5th at Ottery St.Mary in Devon includes the hazardous "Bearing of blazing tar barrels". This highly dangerous activity is performed by responsible local adults as well as by teams of less experienced young boys and girls. Some commentary and explanation is provided by both the Chairman and the Secretary, who give details of the history of the custom and its possible origins. There are also comments by some of the brave participants, proudly showing their burns to the amazed visitors. (Colour 1983/ 30mins)
