DORSET & DEVONSHIRE MUMMERS

Christmas Mummers at Symondsbury & Eype, near Bridport, Dorset - a revival of the local Christmas folk play by Peter Kennedy & Bertram Legg were recorded at a village performance in 1954. It ends with THE SINGING OF THE TRAVELS, a discourse between the husbandman and servantman, sung as the actors circle around Father Christmas. The tune, played on the carillon of Bridport church, is also used in an arrangement by Peter for his Haymakers Band, made for the filming of the play
